Light-Rail Update

Bristol City and South Gloucestershire councils are now working towards a 2007 date for an operational tram system for Bristol with a 'short term' Parkway station terminus from the city centre and a long term one at the Cribbs Causeway 'Mall' shopping complex. Bristol's French twin city Bordeaux is to name one of it's new tram fleet Bristol. The French city have built an 18 mile system, passengers being able to use a smart card ticketing system for travelling. The first tram has been named Quebec and will travel at 40mph. Pedestrians within the city have been advised not to use mobile phones or Walkmans whilst in the vicinity of the new trams as they operate so quietly!
