Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, Irton Road (visit)  

Preserved Petrol Loco: 1ft 3¼ Gauge; (Quarryman) - MH 2/26. 

Notes on Railway: 

1) Lister 40009/54 was said to be in a siding at Murthwaite, which was not visited. 

2) Severn Lamb "Shelagh of Eskdale" was on a Permanent Way train elsewhere down the line. 

3) What remained of the side frames from DB 2/1881 have been used in rebuilding "Shelagh of Eskdale". The remainder of the DB loco was scrapped some years before. 

4) "Scooter" (Ravenglass/71) has been scrapped. 

5) 2 car unit Ravenglass 1976+1983 was not seen. Unconfirmed reports saying that this was also scrapped were received.

Egremont Mining Co Ltd, Florence Iron Ore Mine (surface visit only)  

Preserved Battery Electric Loco: 2ft 6" Gauge; WR 6218/61 OOU. Note; WR loco C6694/63 is located underground but was not seen by the party as a surface only visit was arranged.

Haig Colliery Museum, Whitehaven (visit)  

Preserved Steam Loco; "Askham Hall" - AE 1772/17. Preserved Diesel Locos; ND3815 - HE 2389/41, JF 22971/42 reb TH 130C/63, VF 5262/45 + DC 2181/45. Preserved Battery Electric Loco: 2ft 6" Gauge; WR (5931/58??) Dsm (assumed).

Alan Lightfoot Plant Services, Wigton  

After a considerable search the party found this company's site on the old Airfield in Kirkbride. The premises was an old missen hut/hangar. The premises was locked and there was no sign of any Rail Plant equipment outside. There was a short length of test track outside, so the party were therefore confident it had found the correct site for this company.

1) A big thank you to Mill owner Andrew Curle for arranging and hosting our visit. The visit included train rides behind FH 3756. 

2) Also present was battery powered St Austell Tramcar number 41 which was built by Peter Hallam.
