Notes;- From 06/10 - 10/10, set XC01 had returned to Doncaster to remedy some mainly electrical fault problems. A second refurbished set of coaches became available during the month for Arriva XC, with new interior seats and tables along with improved toilets. The 8 coach sets can carry up to 542 passengers each, compared with 192 on a Voyager unit. North-East based Arriva Train's took over the Cross-Country franchise from Virgin Trains in 2007, this company having finished using HST sets during 2001!
The new set of refurbished coaches (XC02) is formed; 41194, 45002, 42372, 42373, 42374, 42375, 42371, 44072.

Torbay Express
Pastime Rail are to run a series of 'Yuletime Torbay Express' specials between Bristol and Kingswear over the lead up to the Christmas period, with steam loco 6024 King Edward I expected to be the hauling power. The running dates are listed as follows;- Saturday's 06/12, 13/12, 20/12 and Sunday 21/12.

Road Movements
01/10 Ex. GWR Steam 9466, M5 westbound Avonmouth bridge at 12:35 destined for the WSR.
14/10 GWR 2-6-2T 4566 was noted parked up near Junction 32 of the M4 en route to the Gwili railway.
22/10 Preserved Class 24. No. 5054, M42 southbound junction 2.

Guided Buses
Following on from details given in the October Magazine (page 16), the Bath scheme at a cost of 60 million is to be constructed over the former Midland mainline route (out of Bath Green Park) from Newbridge (the current main park & ride car park) into the city. Public opposition has been expressed as some garden space will be lost at six houses along the route and two company premises will have to relocate. The existing Bristol - Bath cycle path (which runs along part of the route) will be retained to continue running alongside the new bus route.

DEPARTMENTALS & TRACKMACHINES

03/10 Charfield area;- DR74507. Readypower r/r excavators; FR613/615/616/622/664. bulldozers; FR215/217. support trailer; FR71?.
Additional note for this location;- It was 80 years ago, on October 13th, 1928 that 15 people lost their lives following the collision of the 00:45 Leicester - Bristol parcels (with GWR loco 714) collided with a down goods train setting back into the refuse siding, spilling onto the up line where a northbound goods train was passing. Coach gas lighting fractured and ignited the wooden bodied coaches which had turned into an inferno below the main road over bridge in the village.
