Guided Buses
Following the rejection (or temporary postponement?) of the development of a route alongside the former Midland mainline, now a cycle path out of North Bristol, proposals have now been made in the South area of the City for a route from the Long Ashton park & ride into the City as far as Temple Meads. This would incorporate the former Bower Ashton engineers site (with a bridge somewhere over the Portishead branch line) and cross the former Ashton road/rail swing bridge (near the Create centre and bonded warehouses), which still carries rails but would be in need of major refurbishment before use. From this point the route is alongside the River Avon (New Cut), although different suggestions have been made for the connection from here to Temple Meads. With a cost of around 35 million, work could be started by 2012 and completed by 2015. A route through the city of Bath is also planned and is expected to be up and running before this Bristol scheme is completed. With the new Bristol development, the future of the Bristol Harbour railway's branch line over the remaining Wapping Wharf to Ashton section is uncertain.
