Because the Barton Hill driver was unfamiliar with Class 37s, the 60 took the lead onwards from Bristol, being delayed by a late afternoon track circuit/signalling failure. Which also caused late running for a number of local westbound services notably the 15.05 Cardiff Central-Weston-super-Mare (67 minutes late, which also affected the booked return 16.51 Weston-super-Mare-Birmingham NS) and the 16.00 Bristol-Taunton (36 minutes late).
